The Story of the Lantern
Shep's Golden Lantern was opened in May of 1974 by Howard 'Shep' and Mart Simon.
The restaurant built a nice reputation for fine casual dining. In 1984 Shep won the
restraunteer of the year award! Shep and his wife Mart did a wonderful job of running
this fine restaurant, but as time goes by one finds the need to sit back and relax
so in 1999 the restaurant was sold to Max Middendorf so Shep and his beautiful
wife could retire. Max is a long-time business man and family man.
Shep wanted to sell the restaurant to someone who would keep it like it was;
classy. Shep knew Max was the man for this. Max is keeping his part of
the bargain too, the restaurant is still what it has been from the
start. A fine restaurant serving fresh meats, fish and poultry, a
kitchen staff that puts their heart and soul into the preperation of
the meal, and a serving staff that is happy to take care of the customer!
